Mutchmor Public School

We received Mutchmor’s preliminary average daily enrolment (ADE) this afternoon. With several no-shows still expected to walk in the door, and a history of steady population growth through the school year, our numbers are as follows.

Admin projected ADE (2001/02): 320
Actual September 6: 367

This is consistent with data coming in from every other targeted school that has reported.

Please note that our children at Mutchmor would not be at all pleased to hear me crowing about a utilization factor that will swamp their playground and lunchroom, however practical the Ministry bean-counters might believe it to be. But for immediate purposes, the pertinent point is that the Board’s target across the area inside the Greenbelt is 90%. A 1% gain at Mutchmor equates to 4.17 students. Which means that, statistically, we’re 8.76 students away from 90% -- this for one of the sites that was considered a prime target for closure. I can’t imagine what must be happening across our "underutilized" core-area schools...but I can’t wait to find out!
