Graduation 2002

Back to Grant

On June 25, 2002, the grade 6 class had a wonderful graduation ceremony.

The show began in the gym, which was decorated with students' art work and balloons.

After a speech from the principal, the students each introduced one of their colleagues who then came up to accept their certificate and then introduce the next student.  There were some good comments and perhaps we'll check the transcripts and post some here.

Mr. Young and Ms. S. gave a great musical performance accompanied by the house musician, John Lloyd.  They did a song called "If I had a Million Scholars".  Apologies to the Bare Naked Ladies for the similarity to "If I Had a Million Dollars"

IF WE HAD A MILLION SCHOLARS

If we had a million scholars (if we had a million scholars)
We’d give them all A’s (or maybe a letter that’s better than that)
If we had a million scholars (if we had a million scholars) They’d all know the answers (‘stead of asking the kid with the Blue Jays cap)
If we had a million scholars (if we had a million scholars)
They’d all know how to spell “there” (Or “their” or “they’re” as well)
If we had a million scholars (if we had a million scholars) They’d run right into our class (Not the girls bathroom when they hear the bell)
And if we had a million scholars
We’d have no jooooooooooooooobs

CHORUS
If we had a million scholars
Their books would be so neat
If we had a million scholars
They wouldn’t have to have assigned seats
If we had a million scholars
They’d all have a pencil or two
And maybe a metric ruler or even an eraser - and what about glue???

If we had a million scholars (if we had a million scholars)
They’d all be on time (And no one would be missing a shoe)
If we had a million scholars (if we had a million scholars)
They’d leave with their lunch bag (and their lockers wouldn’t make us gag)
If we had a million scholars (if we had a million scholars)
You’d work on the weekends (instead of playing at home with your friends)
If we had a million scholars (if we had a million scholars) Our lessons wouldn’t be a bore (We’d give them homework and they’d want more)
And if we had a million scholars
We’d have no joooooooooooooooobs

CHORUS
Why would we want a million scholars
If it meant that we could not have you?
And who would want a million scholars
when we’ve got exactly 52?
Cause if we had a million schooooooooooooolars We’d be bored!

Then we proceeded to Britannia Park for a picnic.  The weather looked grim but we were prepared for a little rain. After some good healthy chips and dip, veggies, bagels and drinks, the students let loose on the play structures while parents and teachers reminisced about the years at Grant and the future, for many, at Summit Alternative School.

As a grand finalé, the science guy shot two model rockets.  We were prepared to film the even with a video camera, digital camera and one 35mm camera.  they took off so fast, and went so high we haven't got any action pictures to show you.  They both ended up in trees but we managed to retrieve one of them last night with the help of an 8 foot pole.

Good luck to all the graduates and thanks to the great teachers and parents at Grant.
